Chequer Lane Fishing Lake, Up Holland

Chequer Lane Fishing Lake, Up Holland is a tough place to find if you don’t know the area that well.  The post code on the West Lancashire County Council website isn’t much use so I have tracked down the right post code that should take you straight there.

The lake is situated on the corner of Ormskirk Road and Chequer Lane in Upholland. The actual lake is opposite Venilde and Sons and the Plough and Harrow Pub, adjacent to the A577 that leads up to Junction 5 of the M58.

Opened in 2005 this small but significant fishing lake is an attraction for local anglers of all ages who enjoy fishing in a peaceful environment.

In 2016 the lake benefited from new fishing pegs and paths. With a few picnic benches and a children’s play area installed the area is as much a family place as it is a lake for anglers.

For all those perplexed as to why on Google Maps it doesn’t show up as a blue blob, it is there if you switch to satellite view, Google must have missed it when colouring in lol.

This lake feels very civilised and ordered, good pegs all round with decent disabled access.  It’s just a shame other people don’t clean up after themselves, quite a lot of rubbish in the water in places.

Currently there isn’t a day ticket charge so it’s free fishing all day!
